HANOVER, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A routine patrol in Wyoming County on Sunday evening resulted in the seizure of multiple controlled substances, including fentanyl, and the arrest of a woman who allegedly provided a false identity.
At approximately 8:33 p.m., Deputy Hunter Walker of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department initiated a traffic stop on Route 52 in the Hanover area. The stop was prompted by a defective taillight on a maroon Mazda with West Virginia registration.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver identified herself as Rebecca Ramey and allowed Deputy Walker to search the vehicle after denying the presence of any illegal items. During the search, Deputy Walker discovered a small clear bag containing a white powdery substance suspected to be fentanyl.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a pink backpack between the driver and passenger seats. Inside the backpack, officers found a piece of aluminum foil containing more of the suspected fentanyl. A continued search of the vehicle uncovered a clear box containing five pills labeled “G-13,” later identified as Gabapentin, and two yellow pills labeled “0.5,” identified as Clonazepam.
Deputy Walker, assisted by Deputy Perry, conducted a field test on the white powdery substance, which confirmed the presence of fentanyl.
After reading the driver her Miranda rights, Deputy Walker questioned her about the ownership of the pink backpack. The driver claimed she had picked up a hitchhiker earlier and suggested the backpack belonged to them. However, the passenger in the vehicle denied any knowledge of the backpack or its contents.
Further investigation revealed that the driver had provided a false identity. Her real name was determined to be Rebecca Seymour. She was taken to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
The seized substances include fentanyl (a Schedule II controlled substance), Clonazepam (a Schedule IV controlled substance), and Gabapentin (a Schedule V controlled substance). All items have been sent to the West Virginia State Police lab for further testing.
