UPSHUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two people have been arrested following a traffic stop that resulted in the discovery of cocaine, meth, and a fugitive.
According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, January 22, 2024, Upshur County Deputies observed a Silver 2008 Dodge Dakota traveling at speeds exceeding the posted speed limit along with crossing over the yellow/white lines multiple times.
Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle near the Buckhannon Antique Mall on Route 20 North in Upshur County.
Police identified the driver as Mark Andrew Maxwell, and the passenger as Coleman Ray Young JR.
Upshur County Communications Center advised that Coleman had a full extradition felony warrant for possession of cocaine from Virginia.
After Coleman was placed in handcuffs, police located a small bag that contained a hard white substance in his shirt pocket.
Coleman admitted that it was cocaine. Mark then admitted he had a methamphetamine smoking device in his pocket.
During the search of Mark, police located multiple snort straws, aluminum foil with burnt residue on it, and a bag with a white crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Police also located a sum of US currency, that belonged to Coleman, in the passenger area of the vehicle.
Coleman was arrested for the outstanding felony warrant and possession of cocaine.
Mark was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.
Mark Maxwell and Coleman Young were then transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail (TVRJ).
Maxwell is currently at TVRJ on a $3,000 bond. Young is currently being held without bond at TVRJ.
