WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday escalated pressure on Iran, warning of potential military action targeting key infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
Trump made the remarks in a series of social media posts on Easter Sunday, saying the United States could target Iranian power plants and bridges if the strategic waterway is not reopened.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!” Trump said in a post.
In a separate message, Trump added: “Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!”
The president later specified a deadline of Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time but did not clarify whether that would mark the timing of potential military action.
The warnings come amid ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, and follow reports that Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route for oil.
Trump also indicated in interviews that a diplomatic agreement with Iran could still be reached, but warned that military options remain on the table if negotiations fail.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials have warned they would target U.S. interests in the region if civilian areas in Iran are attacked.
The situation remains fluid as tensions continue to rise in the region.
