BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two people were arrested early Sunday morning after deputies say an argument inside a Bluefield apartment turned physical, leaving one person with visible injuries.
According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to an unknown emergency call at an apartment on Mapledale Lane around 2:08 a.m. on January 4.
As deputies approached the residence, they reported hearing loud yelling coming from inside. The door opened moments later and a man, identified as Chubby Hoston, walked out of the apartment.
Hoston told deputies that a woman inside — identified as Kathy Turner — had been staying with him for about a month and was refusing to leave. He said Turner had been drinking and became sexually aggressive toward him, and that he struck her on the backside with a broomstick because he was afraid for his safety. Hoston also claimed Turner struck him in the face, but deputies noted he had no visible injuries.
Deputies said Turner confirmed that Hoston hit her with a broomstick and showed them the area where she had been struck. Officers reported seeing a red mark consistent with her statement. Turner denied striking Hoston.
Based on the statements and observed injuries, deputies placed both Turner and Hoston under arrest on charges of domestic battery.
They were transported to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department for processing and later taken to Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment, authorities said.
