MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two men have been arrested after they stole a car and held the car owner at gunpoint and stole his belongings in Monongalia County on Saturday.
On Saturday, March 11, 2023, at approximately 2:10 pm, Monongalia County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to an Armed Robbery that occurred approximately 40 minutes prior in the area of Greer Limestone on Route 7.
The victim stated that he and an acquaintance had picked up another male at a convenience store in Morgantown and drove near Greer Limestone where they stole his vehicle and personal belongings at gunpoint.
The victim was able to walk along Route 7, where a passerby picked him up and he was able to call 911.
Morgantown Police Department located the victim’s stolen vehicle within minutes of the BOLO. Morgantown Police Officers along with Sheriff’s Deputies attempted a traffic stop on Don Knotts Blvd.
The suspects then fled onto Dorsey Avenue where they struck a deputy’s cruiser and continued to flee onto Kingwood Pike.
Deputies then were in pursuit and additional Deputies were staged at the intersection of Summers School Road and Kingwood Pike, where the pursuit continued into Preston County. The suspects then turned onto a dead-end residential street and upon trying to turn around, struck a Sheriff’s Deputy’s cruiser, a second Deputy was able to disable the vehicle.
Monongalia County Sheriff’s cruisers sustained moderate damage. The Deputies nor the suspects received any injuries.
Deputies then took two suspects Michael McHenry, 21 years of age from Parkersburg, WV, and Garrett DeBerry, 25 years of age from Morgantown, WV into custody without incident.
McHenry has been charged with 1st Degree Robbery, Fleeing with Reckless Disregard, and Conspiracy. The bond has been set at $100,000.00 cash.
DeBerry has been charged with 1st Degree Robbery and Conspiracy. The bond has been set at $75,000.00 cash. Both are currently incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
Morgantown City Police, Granville Police, Preston County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Virginia State Police Preston County Detachment assisted in the incident.
Further charges are pending at this time.
