SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two incarcerated individuals died within days of each other at the South Central Regional Jail, according to a statement from the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Darrell Crowder, 33, was found unresponsive by staff conducting routine checks on the evening of Thursday, June 12, 2025.
Jail personnel immediately began life-saving efforts, but Crowder was pronounced dead at the scene.
Just five days later, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, 43-year-old Alana Saul was also discovered unresponsive.
Staff again initiated emergency medical procedures, but Saul was also pronounced deceased that evening.
The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation said it remains committed to the safety and well-being of all individuals in its custody.
Both deaths are currently under investigation by the agency’s Criminal Investigation Division, in coordination with the West Virginia State Police.
No further information has been released at this time.
