OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – UPDATE 10/31/25 10:10 AM: An early morning house fire in Oceana, Wyoming County, claimed the lives of two people on Thursday.
According to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. on October 30 at a residence on Roman Road.
After the fire was extinguished, investigators discovered the bodies of an adult female and a child inside the home.
The victims have been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and formal identification.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

UPDATE 10/30/25 3:08 PM: The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department believes that a mother and her son died in the house fire Thursday morning.
They are awaiting official confirmation from the state medical examiner.

Authorities confirmed that two people died in a house fire Thursday morning just outside of Oceana in Wyoming County.
Wyoming County Sheriff Brad Ellison told LOOTPRESS that first responders were called to the scene during the early hours of October 30, 2025.
Upon arrival, investigators discovered two bodies inside the residence.
The identities of the victims have not been released, as the scene is still under investigation, Sheriff Ellison said.
The bodies have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
Officials have not disclosed additional details about the cause of the fire.
Nearby Glen Fork Elementary and Middle School dismissed early Thursday due to “tragic” community news, but it’s unclear if this incident is connected.
