DICKENSON COUNTY, VA (LOOTPRESS) – Two teenagers were killed Friday evening in a house fire in the Birchleaf area of Dickenson County, according to the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Jeremy Fleming identified the victims as 13-year-old Brooklyn Wampler and 15-year-old Charlie Wampler. Authorities said the call reporting the fire came in at 7:11 p.m. at a home in the 200 block of Rakes Ridge Road.
The Haysi Volunteer Fire Department addressed the incident in a social media post Saturday, noting that the home belonged to one of its members.
“This tragedy hits us especially hard,” the Haysi Volunteer Fire Department stated. “The home belonged to one of our members, and the loss he suffered was unimaginable. Please keep him, his family, and all of those close to him in your prayers.”
The department said firefighters “worked tirelessly to make entry and gain access to the occupants” during the fire, but were unable to reach them in time.
Sheriff Fleming said an online fundraiser has been established to support the family. He added that investigators from the sheriff’s office and the Virginia State Police responded to the scene. The cause of the fire has not been released.
