ROCKY GAP, VA (LOOTPRESS) – A vehicle accident Saturday morning obstructed traffic in the East River Mountain Tunnel, requiring medical transport for multiple individuals involved.
According to the Rocky Gap Volunteer Fire Department, 6:26am on Saturday, June 24, 2023, RGFR responded to a vehicle accident inside the East River Mountain Tunnel.
Five members arrived at the scene to discover two occupants of an impacted vehicle who had safely removed themselves from the wreckage.
One patient remained inside an involved vehicle, and was stabilized before care was turned over to members of the Bland Rescue Squad once they arrival at the scene.
Two individuals were transported to Wytheville Hospital for further evaluation, while the imoacted vehicles were removed from the tunnel to restore the flow of traffic.
All responding units reportedly cleared the scene at 7:15am.
“RGFR would like to thank the Tunnel response team, VSP, Bland County Sheriff’s Department, Bland Rescue Squad and VDOT for their assistance this morning,” said the Rocky Gap Volunteer Fire Department in a statement.
