USPS Gears Up for the 2024 Holiday Season with Enhanced Services and Investments

(LOOTPRESS) – The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced its preparations for the 2024 holiday season, highlighting significant advancements achieved through its 10-year Delivering for America strategic plan. With investments in technology, infrastructure, and logistics, USPS is poised to deliver exceptional service during the holiday rush.

“Thanks to the substantial progress we have made under the Delivering for America plan, we are ready and confident to handle the holiday surge,” said Dr. Joshua Colin, USPS Chief Retail and Delivery Officer. “Our ability to move packages and mail throughout our network has never been stronger. USPS continues to be the most affordable and reliable way to ship packages and mail this holiday season and year-round.”

Key Investments for Peak Holiday Operations

The Postal Service has made targeted investments in its network to handle the anticipated surge in mail and packages this season, including:

  • 83 Revitalized Sorting and Delivery Centers: These centers enhance daily package processing capacity, increase efficiency, and deliver more value to customers.
  • 506 New Package Sorting Machines: Part of a $40 billion infrastructure investment, these machines streamline processing to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Expanded Daily Processing Capacity: USPS can now handle up to 60 million packages per day, bolstered by stabilized staffing and improved logistics.
  • Ground Transportation Focus: Over 95% of mail and packages now move via a redesigned ground transportation network, reducing reliance on costly air transport.
  • 7,500 Seasonal Hires: A smaller number of seasonal employees are needed this year due to an experienced and stable workforce.
  • New Electric Delivery Vehicles: The holiday season marks the debut of USPS’s battery-electric Next Generation Delivery Vehicles, with over 27,000 new vehicles hitting the roads, including 500 electric models.

Affordable and Reliable Shipping Options

USPS is also focused on providing cost-effective shipping solutions for customers this holiday season:

  • USPS Ground Advantage: A new shipping solution offering reliable, affordable delivery within 2-5 business days across the contiguous U.S., leveraging USPS’s extensive last-mile delivery network.
  • Priority Mail Savings: With rates averaging 35% lower than competitors, Priority Mail remains a fast and economical choice for holiday shipping.

“Our shipping products make holiday shipping easy and affordable,” said Steve Montieth, USPS Chief Customer and Marketing Officer. “By choosing USPS Ground Advantage or Priority Mail, customers can save more this holiday season.”

Ready for the Rush

USPS reports that 98% of Americans now receive mail and packages within three days, and the postal network is operating smoothly with no major disruptions. This robust performance ensures the Postal Service can meet the high demands of the holiday season.
