MT. NEBO, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A late-night vehicle fire on Runa Road in Mt. Nebo escalated into a large brush fire early Thursday morning, threatening multiple homes.
The Wilderness Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) was dispatched to the scene at 12:10 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully engulfed passenger car in the roadway.
Due to dry conditions and high winds, flames spread rapidly, igniting nearby brush and endangering homes in the area.
Mutual aid was provided by Summersville, Keslers Cross Lanes, and Fayetteville fire departments, along with Nicholas County Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM), Jan-Care Ambulance, and the West Virginia Division of Forestry (WVDOF).
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze, and WVDOF crews remain on site to monitor hotspots.
No injuries were reported, and all nearby homes were spared from damage.
Authorities urge residents to exercise caution during fire-prone conditions and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.
