SCOTT DEPOT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Vehicle occupants in the Scott Depot area narrowly avoided catastrophe on Wednesday as they were able to escape the confines of a vehicle shortly before the vehicle succumbed to the effects of a blaze.
According to the Teays Valley Fire Department, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, members with the department responded to a working vehicle fire situation at the Park & Ride beside the Scott Depot Sheetz store location.
All occupants of the vehicle were able to successfully evacuate prior to the fire and, though a cause has yet to be officially determined, the fire is believed to have started as a result of a mechanical failure.
The Teays Valley Fire Department also issued a number of recommendations to assist in the prevention of vehicle fire situations, including having vehicles regularly serviced, keeping gas cans sealed, and driving with windows open while transporting gas cans and propane tanks.
In the event of a vehicle fire, the department encourages motorists to pull over as quickly and as safely as possible before turning of the vehicle engine, removing all parties from inside and from within proximity to the vehicle, and avoiding opening the hood or trunk.
