RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Volunteers are currently being sought to assist with several upcoming litter sweep events set to take place throughout Raleigh County.
The Piney Creek Watershed Association, Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, and Raleigh County Make It Shine Committee welcome community members to join them for litter sweeps which will be held in Glen Morgan and Downtown Beckley.
The Glen Morgan litter sweep will be held on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023, beginning at 2:00pm. The sweep will begin as volunteers tend to a small section of roadside/hillside between Sullivan Rd and Tank Branch Rd before moving across the street to clean along the creek area.
Participants for this sweep will meet in the vacant lot next to the railroad trestle, and are welcome to park there or under the bridge piers and carpool to the lot across from Sullivan Road.
Vests, littler sticks, bags, and gloves will be provided along with pick-up area assignments. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, bring along a water bottle, and even bring along work gloves should they feel so inclined.
Then, on Friday, June 16, 2023, a cigarette butt/litter sweep event will be taking place in Downtown Beckley. Participants in this event will meet at Work Park at 1:30pm where supplies including litter sticks, bags, and gloves will be provided along with pick-up area assignments.
In the event of rain or inclement weather, this litter sweep event will be rescheduled for Monday, June 19, 2023.
