(LOOTPRESS) – Walmart is cutting prices on thousands of products this summer, reducing the cost of groceries, household essentials and seasonal items as shoppers continue to face high living expenses.
The nation’s largest retailer announced Monday that the lower prices are available at Walmart stores, Sam’s Club locations, Walmart.com, SamsClub.com, and through the Walmart and Sam’s Club mobile apps. The discounts include food, beverages, cleaning supplies, outdoor products and other everyday necessities.
Items seeing price reductions include fresh beef, Coca-Cola products, chips, paper plates, laundry and household goods, grills, sunscreen and lawn mowers.
Among the biggest discounts announced are:
- Fresh sweet corn: 25 cents each, down from 68 cents (63% off)
- Fresh red cherries (2.25-pound bag): $5.63, down from $11.18 (50% off)
- Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar 24-packs: $9.97, down from $14.97 (33% off)
- Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Dr Pepper and Diet Mountain Dew 24-packs: $9.97, down from $13.97 (29% off)
- 1-pound roll of 73% lean ground beef: $5.94, down from $6.74 (12% off)
- Great Value ice cream (48-ounce): $2.50, down from $2.97
- Lay’s Classic Potato Chips (8-ounce): $2.50, down from $2.97
- Frito-Lay Family Fun Variety Pack (18-count): $8.97, down from $9.97
- Great Value paper plates (200-count): $8.97, down from $9.97
The company said the markdowns are intended to lower the cost of popular summer products and reinforce its focus on affordability.
President Donald Trump praised the move in a social media post, saying Walmart was lowering prices at the request of his administration to celebrate the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Walmart, however, declined to comment on the president’s statement, and its announcement made no mention of the White House.
The discounts began rolling out last week, according to a Walmart spokesperson.
The price cuts come several months after Walmart said it had raised prices on some general merchandise due to higher import costs tied to tariffs earlier this year.
The announcement also comes as many Americans continue to report struggling with the cost of everyday necessities. A recent survey by The Guardian and Harris Poll found that about half of Americans say they have difficulty paying for groceries, gas and other basic expenses, while 95% believe the country is experiencing an affordability crisis.
Walmart said the latest round of price reductions is part of its ongoing effort to offer customers lower prices on everyday essentials throughout the summer shopping season.
