CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A new bill introduced in the West Virginia House of Delegates aims to impose a $1 surcharge on ride-sharing and food delivery services, including Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, and Uber Eats.
House Bill 2579 proposes that the funds collected be allocated to the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) and distributed equally among the state’s counties for road maintenance.
Under the proposed legislation, the $1 fee would be applied per ride for ride-sharing services and per delivery for food delivery platforms. The collected funds would be disbursed to the WVDOH, ensuring the money is used strictly for public roadway maintenance rather than administrative or wage expenses at supervisory levels.
The bill specifies that funds will be evenly distributed across all counties, allowing each region to benefit equally from the additional revenue.
