CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A new bill, HB 2712, proposes removing exceptions for rape and incest from West Virginia’s abortion laws.
Currently, state law allows abortion in cases of rape or incest within specific timeframes, provided the incident is reported to law enforcement or a medical provider. If passed, HB 2712 would eliminate those exceptions, meaning abortion would only be allowed in cases where the pregnancy is nonviable, ectopic, or poses a medical emergency to the patient.
The bill is now under consideration in the Legislature.
