MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Pain Center of West Virginia, a clinic located in Martinsburg, has agreed to pay $750,000 to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by submitting false claims to Medicare.
The claims were related to the use of amniotic fluid injections for pain management, a treatment not covered by Medicare.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, The Pain Center submitted claims for treating various orthopedic conditions using amniotic fluid injections, knowing that Medicare did not reimburse for this type of therapy.
In addition to the financial settlement, the clinic will enter into a three-year Integrity Agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the Inspector General, aimed at ensuring future compliance with federal healthcare regulations.
The case was investigated by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stephanie Savino and Christopher Prezioso, along with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General.
