MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A West Virginia county school board member is facing a misdemeanor shoplifting charge following an alleged incident at a Walmart store earlier this month.
Yvonne Jeannette Jenkins, 62, of Martinsburg, who serves on the Berkeley County Board of Education, was charged following an October 14 incident at the Martinsburg Walmart, according to court records.
A criminal complaint filed in Berkeley County Magistrate Court by the Martinsburg Police Department alleges that Jenkins concealed merchandise and used a different price tag to scan items at checkout.
According to the complaint, store loss prevention employees approached Jenkins near the shopping cart return area as she was leaving the store. Jenkins allegedly abandoned her shopping cart, fled the area and drove away.
Authorities reported that the merchandise involved was valued at less than $500.
Court records indicate that Jenkins was released on a $500 personal recognizance bond.
The charge remains an allegation, and Jenkins is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
