According to voter-registration data from August 14 from the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office, there are 1,695 registered Republicans compared to 1,691 Democrats.
The shift reflects an increase of 18 Republicans and a decrease of 10 Democrats from the previous month.
Independents and unaffiliated voters remain a significant portion of the electorate, totaling 1,652.
Smaller parties show little change, with 23 Libertarians, 14 Mountain Party members, and 17 listed as “Other.”
In all, Webster County has 5,092 registered voters, a slight decrease of eight from the previous month.
The change in Webster County mirrors a broader trend across West Virginia, where rural counties have increasingly shifted Republican in recent years.
Statewide, Republicans make up about 42% of registered voters, while Democrats account for roughly 28%. That majority has given Republicans a supermajority in the West Virginia Legislature.
Democrats last held control of both legislative chambers in Charleston in 2014.
