CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Tourism invites local families to celebrate spooky season with an evening of free, festive fun at the Halloween Bash, on Wednesday, October 29, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the West Virginia Culture Center, located in the State Capitol Complex.
After the event, families are encouraged to take a short walk toward the Kanawha Boulevard where the Governor and First Lady will be greeting trick-or-treaters at the north gate of the Governor’s Mansion with a special treat.
“I’d like to personally invite local families to join us in celebrating the season with some free and safe Halloween fun,” said Governor Patrick Morrisey. “After enjoying a night of games, crafts, and entertainment at the Halloween Bash, be sure to bring your family by the mansion for some trick-or-treating. We look forward to seeing all of you there!”
The Culture Center’s Great Hall will be transformed into a family-friendly haunted haven, filled with exciting activities and entertainment suitable for children and adults alike. Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite costume or Halloween attire. Prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed participants in three age categories: Pre-K and under, Kindergarten through second grade, and third through fifth grade.
“Our Halloween Bash is a wonderful way for families to come together and celebrate the magic of fall in the Mountain State,” said West Virginia Department of Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby. “Come join in on the fun as we celebrate our rich history and unique culture through entertaining hand-on activities.”
Halloween Bash Highlights include:
- Miniature Golf — Try your hand at a six-hole, Halloween-themed mini golf course that’s as fun as it is frightful.
- Face Painting and Balloon Art — Bring your imagination to life with festive face paint designs and one-of-a-kind balloon creations.
- Craft Stations — Kids can create their own haunted crafts to take home as a keepsake from the fun-filled evening.
- Folklore Readings — Feel a spine-tingling chill while listening to some of the Mountain State’s most prized folklore from a local storyteller.
- Cryptid Scavenger Hunt — Set out on a quest in the State Museum to discover legendary West Virginia cryptids hidden throughout the exhibits. Little spook-seekers who find an icon will receive a special prize!
Free parking is available in the Capitol Complex parking garage. Visitors are encouraged to start their evening with the festivities at the Culture Center before walking toward the Kanawha Boulevard to the north gate of the Governor’s Mansion.
