WELCH, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the opening of a temporary office in Welch after devastating flooding in February forced the closure of its downtown location.
“Immediately after the flooding, we started work to secure a temporary location to serve the citizens of McDowell County and its surrounding counties,” said DMV Commissioner Everett Frazier.
“We recognize the need for certain documents for citizens as they continue the clean-up process and we want to be there to help obtain what they need.”
The temporary office is located at 745 Riverside Dr., Welch, WV 24801, and will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The new permanent Welch office is expected to open in May 2025.
The temporary office will provide online services such as vehicle registration duplicates and renewals, as well as driver’s license and ID duplicates and renewals, ensuring residents can access essential DMV functions despite the flood damage.
“I have suffered total loss, myself, so I know what it’s like to have nothing and need help,” Frazier said. “The DMV will be there to do just that.”
