HURRICANE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Dr. Tracy Hendershot, a dedicated rural health advocate and board-certified family physician, has been nominated to join the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), one of the largest medical organizations in the U.S.
The nomination comes as part of the AAFP’s 2025 national election cycle. Final selections will be made during the AAFP Congress of Delegates this fall in Anaheim, California, where representatives from across the country will gather to shape the future of family medicine.

He is also a former WVAFP President and serves as a Delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates.
A proud Appalachian native, Dr. Hendershot earned his medical degree from Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, where he was named the school’s first Paul Ambrose Health Policy Fellow. He is a Fellow of the AAFP and has received numerous accolades for his work in opioid stewardship, healthcare workforce development, and long-term care innovation.
“It’s an honor to be considered for this role,” said Dr. Hendershot. “Our rural and community-based physicians face unique challenges, and I’m committed to making sure their voices are heard on the national stage.”
