CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Lottery Facebook account has been hit big-time by spam accounts and scammers, who will comment and tell you that you have won and provide you a link to continue.
Officials with the West Virginia Lottery say that these are not real accounts, even though they might have the WV Lottery logo and say the ‘West Virginia Lottery’.
Lottery officials ask that you please do not click those accounts and report them to Facebook.
Users are also asked to please pay attention to when the contest officially ends, which will always be in the paragraph of the Facebook post.
Here are some quick cyber-safety tips from the West Virginia Lottery for you anytime you enter any of the contests:
1. The Lottery will NEVER comment and tell you that you have won.
а. We will either send you a direct message, or we will comment and tell you to direct message us.
b. You can always call and ask for our Marketing Department to verify whether you are a winner or not.
2. The Lottery will NEVER ask you for any kind of credit card or financial information.
3. Check the followers on these fake accounts. We have over 77,000 followers, not 3.
4. The Lottery will NEVER tell you that if we don’t get back to you in 60 minutes, your win has been canceled.
5. Why would we ask you to register for something, if you’ve supposedly already won?
