MOATSVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Barbour County man has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting his roommate in the head during an incident on June 4.
Authorities say Christopher Bolyard is accused of shooting his roommate, who was found conscious and alert with a gunshot wound to the head at a residence on White Road in Moatsville.
Deputies responded to the scene around 6:17 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a gunshot wound.
While en route, dispatchers informed officers that the alleged shooter, a friend of the victim, was reportedly headed to harm his own family.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying face-down on the garage floor. When asked who shot him, the victim identified the suspect as “Chris Bolyard,” stating that Bolyard had been intoxicated and “woke up and shot me with a .40.”
The victim also confirmed his identity to officers and gave them Bolyard’s address on High Street in Philippi.
Officers, familiar with both individuals, knew they lived together and alerted the Philippi Police Department to be on the lookout for Bolyard, who was believed to be traveling by motorcycle.
Philippi officers located Bolyard at the High Street address. He was taken to the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
During a search, deputies found a loaded Smith & Wesson .40-caliber handgun on Bolyard’s hip. The firearm had one round in the chamber and six more unspent rounds.
A spent shell casing found at the scene matched the same caliber and brand of ammunition in the weapon.
Bolyard has been charged with attempted murder and the use or presentation of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
He is currently at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
