CROSS LANES, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A West Virginia man is in jail on a $25,000 bond, after pepper-spraying his girlfriend and stealing her car over the weekend.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), Deputy S.B.R. Savilla III was dispatched to the Cross Lanes Taco Bell around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
9-1-1 operators received a call stating that 29-year-old, Michael Scott Carpenter of Saint Albans, had pepper-sprayed his girlfriend and stolen her vehicle.
While responding to the call, Deputy Savilla passed Carpenter in the stolen vehicle on W. Washington Street between Cross Lanes and Dunbar.
Deputy Savilla made a traffic stop and Mr. Carpenter was found to be not only in possession of the stolen vehicle but driving under the influence of drugs.
Deputies learned Mr. Carpenter’s license was already revoked for a prior DUI, and they found him in possession of narcotics along with pepper spray.
Mr. Carpenter was charged with 2nd Degree Robbery, Domestic Battery, 2nd Offense DUI, and Driving Revoked for DUI.
He is currently being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $25,000 bond.
The KCSO says that Michael Carpenter is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The victim in this case was treated at the scene by medics for non-life-threatening injuries and her vehicle was returned to her possession without damage.
