JUSTICE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – In the early hours of December 21, Trooper J.C. Morrison of the West Virginia State Police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at the Justonian Restaurant, located at 92 Dolly Adkins Street in Justice, West Virginia. The incident, which occurred around 5:00 a.m., led to the arrest of Stephen Hatfield on multiple charges, including Domestic Battery (2nd Offense), Domestic Assault, and Bond Violation.
Incident Details
Upon arriving at the restaurant, Trooper Morrison was informed that the accused, Stephen Hatfield, had fled the scene and entered a nearby residence. The alleged victim provided a statement describing a history of physical abuse by Stephen, expressing fear for her safety due to his aggressive behavior.
A witness at the scene corroborated the victim’s account, reporting that they observed Stephen repeatedly pulling on her arm in an attempt to force her into a vehicle. The witness also saw Stephen swing at the victim, though they could not confirm whether he used a closed fist or an open hand. Following the altercation, the witness noted a prominent red mark on her face.
A Troubling History
Stephen Hatfield has a documented history of domestic violence. He was previously convicted of Domestic Battery on July 22, 2008, with Janet Hatfield as the victim. More recently, on September 21, 2024, he was arrested in Logan County for Domestic Battery against the victim. Following that arrest, a court order was issued on September 27, 2024, mandating that Stephen have no contact with the victim.
Trooper Morrison determined that Stephen violated the court order during the December 21 incident, further compounding his legal troubles.

Based on the evidence collected and Stephen Hatfield’s history of domestic violence, Trooper Morrison placed him under arrest. The charges include:
