CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Parkways Authority announced immediate actions to improve the recently upgraded toll system. These actions will address recent issues that have arisen following the implementation of the new system, particularly with respect to tolls and fees associated therewith.
The system was upgraded because the old system had become outdated and to allow the Parkways Authority to take advantage of new technology and offer travelers more ways to pay, including credit card and Pay-By-Plate. The system was installed and is maintained by TransCore, an international company that specializes in operating specialized toll systems.
“We know our customers have been frustrated with aspects of this new toll system,” said Parkways Authority Interim Executive Director Parrish French. “We apologize for the inconvenience and are committed to making the necessary changes to improve this system immediately.”
Below are changes that are in process. French said the Parkways Authority would keep the public notified of additional updates through various mediums throughout the state.
- Travelers with an established E-ZPass or Pay-By-Plate account with the Parkways Authority will continue to be able to utilize all lanes.
- Mainline Travelers without an E-ZPass or Pay-By-Plate account should utilize the cashlanes at each plaza for the most user-friendly experience.
- North Beckley Plaza Travelers without an E-ZPass or Pay-by-Plate account must visit www.wvturnpike.com to make toll payments within 30 days to avoid notice and fees.
- Effective immediately, the $10 Fee for Notices of Tolls Due will not be enforced until at least September 1, 2025.
- Improvements will be made to our Customer Service process to help answer frequently asked questions more efficiently. The Customer Service line remains 1-800-206-6222.
- A statewide public education campaign will be launched this spring to explain the newtolling system and ensure that users fully understand how it works and all the optionsnow available for traveling the WV Turnpike. This campaign will allow us to continue to bring education and awareness to the public about the E-ZPass Program and further explain the new Pay-By-Plate Program, new credit card payment system and a soon-to-be available mobile app.
- The development of a new comprehensive website also will begin soon. Visitors to thesite will be able to find current and relevant information and resources about the Parkways Authority, our programs and much more. Better functionality, navigability and more of an ease of use will be the top priorities for this new site.
