KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – First responders from multiple areas of Fayette County were called for assistance in Kanawha County after major flooding hit the area on Monday.
According to the Ansted Fire Department, the Fayette County Swiftwater and Rope teams responded to calls for assistance in eastern Kanawha County today following an excessive rainfall event that occurred, producing up to 9.1 inches of rain in some areas.
Assets activated were members from Ansted, Oak Hill, Fayetteville Montgomery, Swiftwater boats, and Vertical Rescue Trailers.
Immediately upon reporting to command members were assigned to the Slaughters Creek area in eastern Kanawha County.
Members assembled and as a county unit, worked together to check resident by resident to see if residents were in need. Crews cleared assignment by assignment from the command center, mainly evacuating persons with conditions that would render staying in uncertain flooded homes unsafe.
“To the citizens of Kanawha County; our hearts go out to you,” the Ansted Fire Department stated in a Facebook post.
