CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – President Donald Trump has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for West Virginia, granting Individual Assistance (IA) to residents in McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, and Wyoming counties.
Other counties included in the state’s request remain under review by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The IA Program provides financial aid to individuals facing significant damage to their homes or property.
“I’m grateful to President Trump and Secretary Noem for stepping up to support West Virginians in need,” said Governor Patrick Morrisey.
“Thank you as well to Senators Capito and Justice, and to Representatives Miller and Moore, for their efforts. The Major Disaster Declaration will supplement the work being completed on the ground and provide relief to recovering communities in southern West Virginia.”
In addition to Individual Assistance, the declaration allows all West Virginia counties to participate in the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
This program provides funding for projects aimed at reducing the impact of future flooding and supporting Public Service Districts with wastewater treatment and other long-term hazard mitigation efforts.
Governor Morrisey’s request for Public Assistance is still under FEMA review. Residents seeking aid can find more information on FEMA’s website.
