CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia’s 2026 School Clothing Allowance Program remains on hold, with no application start date announced as of Thursday afternoon.
Applications for the annual program typically open on July 1. However, no applications were being accepted on Wednesday.
Multiple applicants have stated that they were informed by staff at their local West Virginia Department of Human Services offices that the program has been delayed and that no timeline has been provided for when applications will begin.
The delay comes after Governor Patrick Morrisey indicated earlier this year that the program could face reductions because of a projected $40 million deficit in the state’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funding.
The program also experienced a brief delay last year before applications opened on July 7, 2025.
The School Clothing Allowance Program provides eligible families with a $200 benefit per child to help purchase school clothing or materials for families who choose to make their children’s clothing.
LOOTPRESS has contacted the West Virginia Department of Human Services for additional information and is awaiting a response.
