MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Jorge William Mendoza, 30, of Martinsburg, was sentenced on Friday, December 20, to 11 to 25 years in prison, followed by 50 years of supervised release, for sexually abusing students while working as a teacher at Rocky Knoll School.
Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney-elect Joseph R. Kinser announced the sentencing, which was handed down by Judge Bridget Cohee.
Mendoza was convicted of one count of Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, Custodian, or Person in a Position of Trust, and one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, both felonies.
The case began after a student reported being sexually abused by Mendoza.
Following the initial report, another former Rocky Knoll student came forward with similar allegations.
The West Virginia State Police promptly launched an investigation, conducting forensic interviews with the victims to gather detailed accounts of the abuse.
Evidence obtained through the analysis of electronic devices and social media records corroborated the allegations against Mendoza.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Raymond E. Boyce, Jr., led the prosecution.
Prosecutor-elect Kinser expressed his gratitude to Trooper Harmon of the West Virginia State Police and Sgt. See of the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit for their roles in the investigation.
