CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) will begin accepting applications for the 2026 School Clothing Allowance Program on Monday, July 20, providing eligible families with assistance to purchase school clothing for children enrolled in West Virginia schools.
Applications will be accepted through Aug. 15, 2026, or until available funding is exhausted, whichever comes first. To be considered, completed applications must be received by a local DoHS office before the program closes.
Families may apply online at www.wvpath.wv.gov or request a paper application by contacting their local DoHS office or calling 1-877-716-1212.
The program’s opening had been delayed because of uncertainty surrounding the state’s federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funding. Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced that funding has now been secured for this year’s program.
“We are doing this the right way, and we’re working to make funding streams last. COVID-era reliance on one-time money helped create these challenges, so now we are working to put this program on solid footing. Starting July 20, West Virginia families can apply for the School Clothing Allowance,” said Governor Patrick Morrisey.
Each eligible child will receive a $200 benefit that can be used to purchase appropriate school clothing or piece goods for families who sew clothing for their children.
To qualify, households must meet income guidelines and submit verification of July 2026 income with their application. For a family of four, the monthly income limit is $3,483.
The 2026 monthly household income limits are:
For households with more than 10 people, add $596 for each additional household member.
Approved benefits will be loaded onto recipients’ Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, which can be used like a debit card at retailers that accept EBT cash transactions, including for online purchases where available. Parents or guardians of children in foster care will receive the clothing allowance by check.
Families needing to update their mailing address may do so through www.wvpath.wv.gov or by calling the DoHS Customer Service Center at 1-877-716-1212.
