BARRACKVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The entire Barrackville Police Department has been relieved of duty by the town’s mayor and council, according to a statement posted on the department’s Facebook page Tuesday.
The post said that, effective immediately, every member of the department had been relieved of duty by the Barrackville Town Council and the mayor.
The move comes less than a week after Barrackville Police Chief Zachary Freeburn resigned from his position.
The action also follows the cancellation of the Barrackville Town Council’s regularly scheduled meeting, which had been set for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
In a Facebook post Monday night, town officials said the meeting was canceled due to “a lack of sufficient information regarding items listed under ‘unfinished business.’”
No additional details have been released regarding the decision to relieve the department of duty or how law enforcement services will be provided moving forward.
