BUNKER HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A 32-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a stabbing incident.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred in the early hours of August 23, 2024, on Budding Dogwood Road in Bunker Hill.
Deputies responded to a 911 call at approximately 1:00 AM reporting a stabbing at a local residence.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the victim, a 38-year-old woman, with multiple stab wounds.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Kelda Kamapunga, had fled the scene but was later found hiding in the basement under a mattress.
The investigation revealed that the altercation began as a verbal dispute between the two women, which escalated when Kamapunga allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim in the arm and both legs.
The victim managed to escape and was later treated by EMS at a staging area before being transported to Berkeley Medical Center for further treatment.
Deputies, including Sergeant Ritchie, Deputy Hooper, and Trooper Harmon, processed the crime scene, recovering the weapon and collecting DNA evidence.
Kamapunga was taken into custody without further incident but remained uncooperative.
She was transported to the Eastern Regional Jail and has been charged with attempted murder.
Her bond has been set at $40,000 by a Berkeley County Magistrate.
The investigation is ongoing, with evidence being sent to the West Virginia State Police Lab for further analysis.
The victim, whose name has not been released, is a resident of Bunker Hill and is currently recovering from her injuries.
