MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Thornton woman following a year-long investigation into financial misconduct at two local cemeteries.
Tammy Spring, 59, was taken into custody on January 17, 2025, after detectives uncovered evidence of embezzlement, document forgery, and fraudulent schemes involving East Oak Grove and Oak Grove Cemetery.
Authorities say the alleged crimes took place between February 2019 and September 2023.
Spring was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court and received an $80,000 cash/surety bond. She is currently being held at the North Central Regional Jail.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as the investigation continues.
Anyone who purchased burial plots, buried a loved one, or had transactional disputes with Spring at East Oak Grove Cemetery between 2019 and 2023 is urged to contact the Detective Division at 304-291-7260.
