WESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – What began as a routine warrant service quickly escalated into a dramatic two-hour standoff Saturday afternoon when a Weston man barricaded himself in an outbuilding and refused to surrender.
At approximately 12:55 PM, officers from the WV State Police and local law enforcement arrived at 117 Catherine Street in Weston to serve an active capias warrant on Dana Butcher. As troopers approached, Butcher reportedly turned and briskly walked away, ignoring verbal commands to stop.
Instead of complying, Butcher entered a nearby outbuilding and locked the door, triggering a tense standoff. Officers attempted for several minutes to convince him to come out voluntarily, but Butcher remained defiant.
Backup was called in, and Harrison County deputies arrived on the scene with a K-9 unit. Upon making entry into the building, officers discovered that Butcher had climbed into the attic, continuing to resist arrest. Verbal commands and OC spray (pepper spray) were used in an effort to coax him out, but Butcher refused to budge.
After two hours of negotiation, Butcher finally announced he was ready to surrender and climbed down from the attic. He was immediately taken into custody without further incident.
