MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A husband lies to deputies to protect his wife after she stabbed him.
According to Mercer County deputies, on October 7, 2021, they responded to a reported stabbing call in the Lerona area. Â When they arrived, the husband had a wound to his neck and was bleeding profusely. Â The husband initially stated that he was “jumped” on the side of WV Route 20 by two guys, and one of them stabbed him. Â The suspect, which happens to be his wife, Valerie Whittaker, provided the same statement.
Once the victim was transported to the hospital for his injuries, deputies were able to speak to him again. Â The victim said his previous statement was inaccurate because he didn’t want his wife to go to jail. Â He then stated that during an argument in the home kitchen, Valerie Whittaker grabbed a brown handle knife and stabbed him in the neck.
Detectives found no blood outside but did find some on the inside. Â They noticed the floor had been recently mopped. Â Also found was the brown-handle knife in the sink with what appeared to be blood on the tip of the blade.
Whittaker was arrested and charged with domestic battery and malicious wounding.
