BLUEFIELD< WV (LOOTPRESS) – William Williams, a 24-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) McDowell, has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for possessing a weapon while incarcerated.
The sentencing follows an incident on December 12, 2022, when an FCI McDowell staff member conducted a routine pat-down search of Williams. During the search, the staff discovered a handmade weapon, commonly referred to as a “shank,” concealed in Williams’ left front pants pocket. The weapon consisted of a five-inch piece of sharpened metal with a cloth-wrapped handle. Williams admitted to possessing the weapon and acknowledged that it was designed and intended for use as a weapon.
United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentencing and praised the Federal Bureau of Prisons for its investigative efforts. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons, with Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber presiding over the sentencing.
