WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Williamstown man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly attempting to disarm law enforcement officers during an early morning arrest.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. J.L. Ruble was dispatched to the area of Ullman’s Car Lot on February 7, 2025, following a 911 hang-up call. Upon arrival, Sgt. Ruble located a male suspect in the DaVinci’s parking lot.
While speaking with the suspect, the individual allegedly discarded a clear dime bag containing a white crystal substance, suspected to be methamphetamine. Sgt. Ruble then advised the suspect that he was under arrest at approximately 3:17 a.m.
As Sgt. Ruble and WCSO Sgt. R.A. Waters attempted to detain the suspect; he allegedly lunged to his left side and grabbed at Sgt. Ruble’s duty weapon, trying to remove it from the holster. The officers struggled to restrain him as he then reportedly attempted to disarm Sgt. Waters, as well.
Two Washington County, Ohio, deputies arrived on the scene to assist in restraining the suspect, who was ultimately placed in the back of a police cruiser. However, authorities say he then manipulated his handcuffs to the front of his body, reached through the cage partition, and attempted to grab Sgt. Ruble’s Remington shotgun from the cruiser.
Officers quickly intervened, removed him from the vehicle, and restrained him again with additional handcuffs and leg shackles.
Authorities are now seeking three felony warrants for attempting to disarm a police officer.
