One area of the state in particular that will blow you away is Babcock State Park in Fayette County. Babcock is home to the world-famous Glade Creek Grist Mill, Boley Lake, Mann’s Creek Gorge, and the Glade Creek Gorge.
After a good snow, the park and all of Clifftop turns into a captivating winter wonderland. Glade Creek becomes surrounded by snow-covered trees and ice sickles descend along the mountainside.
The iconic 1976 Glade Creek Grist Mill becomes one of the most picturesque winter scenes in the world as the snow allows the Mill to shine with its snow-covered roof and ice sickles dangling from its side.
Boley Lake located just up the hill from the main parking lot, turns into an ice haven as it is surrounded by white glistening trees.
For those willing to hike, the Narrow Gauge and Sewell Trails feature two nice waterfalls. Mann’s Creek and Flanagan Branch Falls are two underrated waterfalls within the park that create the perfect winter waterfall shot.
The road leading to the Mann’s Creek and Glade Creek Gorge overlooks in the park are closed to vehicle traffic for the season, but hiking to them is permitted.
Whichever place at Babcock State Park you decide to explore this winter, you will not be disappointed.
Although lodging at the park is closed for the season, nearby Country Road Cabins in Hico is available to accommodate families big or small.
