GHENT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Winterplace is ready to welcome spring in style with its annual Snowmelt Fest, featuring two high-energy spring favorites: the Carboard Classic and the always-entertaining Pond Skim. The celebration takes place Saturday, March 7 through Sunday, March 8 at the Mountain House, bringing costumes, family-friendly competition, music and plenty of springtime vibes to the slopes.
Snowmelt Fest promises fun for all ages, whether guests are racing, skimming or cheering from the sidelines.
The Cardboard Classic kicks off the weekend on Saturday, March 7. Registration will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Mountain House, with the race beginning at 2 p.m. Teams of two are invited to build their sled using only cardboard and duct tape. Decorations such as paint and stickers are permitted, but no metal or plastic additions are allowed. Costumes are encouraged, and style points are also appreciated. The team with the fastest time down the course wins. This event takes place in the snowtubing park. Participation is free, and all participants must sign a waiver. Family and friends are invited to gather for a festive viewing party.
The excitement continues Sunday, March 8 with the return of the Pond Skim at 2 p.m., with registration from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Participants will attempt to glide across the water from the lowest point on the course, with the competitor traveling the farthest claiming the grand prize. Entry is free with the purchase of a lift ticket. Costumes are encouraged, and all participants must sign a waiver.
Spectators are welcome both days at no charge. The best viewing area for the Carboard Classic is beside the snowtubing park, and guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Pond Skim viewing will take place near the skim course. Music, high energy and a festive spring atmosphere will keep the celebration going all weekend long.
