CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A slow-moving upper-level low-pressure system is bringing wintry conditions to the region through early Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
While snow will persist in the mountains, temperatures are expected to rise, leading to rain across the lowlands beginning this afternoon.
Snow levels in the mountains will also rise as the system progresses.
Significant snow accumulation is forecast for higher elevations, while additional snowfall in the lowlands will be minimal and primarily confined to the southern Coal Fields this morning.
The system will also bring gusty winds, with speeds exceeding 30 mph in the lowlands and up to 45 mph in the mountains.
These winds could down tree limbs, potentially causing power outages in affected areas.
Residents are advised to prepare for challenging travel conditions in higher elevations and to monitor local updates as the system moves through the area.
