BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman is facing charges after investigators say she intentionally struck a man with her vehicle following a disturbance in Beckley before fleeing the scene.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies responded on April 14, 2026, to the area of Prosperity Road near Dearing Drive in Raleigh County regarding an assault complaint.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with Joanna Lowry, who was reportedly driving a gray Nissan sedan with West Virginia registration 942192A.
Investigators determined that after an earlier disturbance in Beckley, Lowry allegedly pursued another vehicle onto Prosperity Road and into a church parking lot.
According to witness statements and video evidence cited in the complaint, an argument took place before Lowry allegedly accelerated her vehicle forward and struck Larry Lyons, causing injuries.
Authorities said video evidence showed Lyons was standing still at the time and did not pose an immediate threat to Lowry.
After the incident, investigators allege Lowry left the scene without providing aid or the required information.
Based on witness statements, physical evidence, and video footage, officers charged Lowry with unlawful assault and leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury.
The case remains under investigation.
