HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Huntington woman was arrested Tuesday, May 27, in Cabell County on charges of child neglect creating risk of injury and obstructing an officer, following a welfare check at her home.
According to a criminal complaint filed by responding officers, authorities were dispatched around 7:34 a.m. after Cabell County 911 received a report from EMS personnel who had visited the home the night before.
The report indicated that the woman, identified as Shneekquwa Canady, had complained of pain from a hernia and mentioned consuming excessive alcohol.
When officers arrived at the residence, they found two small children inside.
The home was reportedly in poor condition, with dirty clothes and used diapers scattered throughout, and open beer cans were found in what appeared to be the children’s bedroom.
Police noted that the alcohol containers were easily accessible to the children.
Based on these observations, officers attempted to arrest Canady on suspicion of child neglect creating risk of injury.
As one officer tried to handcuff her, she allegedly pulled away, prompting the officer to escort her to the ground in order to complete the arrest.
Canady was taken into custody without further incident. Child Protective Services was called to the scene to ensure the welfare of the children.
The residence was photographed as part of the investigation.
Canady faces charges of obstructing an officer and child neglect creating risk of injury.
