BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One Raleigh County woman has been arrested after staging multiple fake accidents and injuries with her son in order to file insurance claims for monetary gain.
A criminal complaint has unveiled an intricate insurance fraud scheme conducted over the span of nearly two years.
The complaint, implicates two individuals, Evelyn Plumley and Jacob Angle, who allegedly orchestrated and participated in multiple fraudulent insurance incidents, ultimately securing over $22,000 from Nationwide Insurance through a web of deceit.
The complaint outlines a series of fraudulent claims involving staged wrecks, fictitious injuries, and manipulated statements. Plumley and Angle are alleged to have conspired and executed these acts with meticulous planning.
The duo reportedly colluded in a range of fraudulent activities, including faking injuries, providing misleading statements, and conspiring to deceive the insurance company.
Investigation into the matter commenced after police were provided information by the West Virginia Officers of the Insurance Commissioner uncovered potential discrepancies within the statements provided by the accused individuals.
The complaint meticulously dissects each claim, exposing inconsistencies in the narratives of the involved parties. In one instance, a staged collision is described with explicit detail, involving multiple individuals and vehicles, none of which appear to have occurred as reported.
One claim involved a collision between Plumley’s 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a wooden cable pole. Plumley claimed both personal injury and property damage, while her son, Jacob Angle, also claimed bodily injury.
Investigations, however, revealed that the claimed injuries were reportedly fictitious and that the collision itself may not have transpired as described.
The complaint details alleged connections between the accused and other individuals, including the now-deceased Ricky Agnor, who purportedly played a pivotal role in educating Plumley and Angle on the intricacies of staging wrecks and committing insurance fraud.
In an extensive interview, Jacob Angle is reported to have confessed to participating in the fraudulent claims scheme. He allegedly disclosed details of their discussions on staging wrecks, creating fictitious injuries, and manipulating insurance claims.
Angle reportedly claimed that the damage attributed to the collisions was fabricated by deliberately damaging vehicles with things such as bricks. He also mentioned that he was coerced by his mother, Evelyn Plumley, to participate under threat of eviction.
Evelyn Plumley, in her interview, corroborated much of Angle’s statements, admitting her involvement in the fraudulent scheme. She disclosed that she was aware of the fabricated injuries and staged collisions, and she detailed discussions with Ricky Agnor on crafting scripted statements for the insurance company.
Plumley admitted to receiving payments from the fraudulent claims and reportedly convinced her son to partake in the deception.
The complaint also delves into a purported staged wreck that involved several individuals occupying multiple vehicles.
Plumley has been charged with Filing a Fraudulent Insurance Claim, Conspiracy, Fraudulent Schemes, and Obtaining Money, Goods or Services by False Pretenses.
She is currently at Southern Regional Jail on a $30,000 bond. Details regarding charges for Jacob Angle have not been released at this time.
