KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Charleston woman was arrested late Wednesday night after leading Kanawha County deputies on a high-speed chase that put multiple motorists and officers at risk.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 10:20 p.m. on January 29, when deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle on Winfield Road in Saint Albans.
The vehicle had no license plate and showed fresh damage to the rear. When a deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over and sped toward Winfield.
During the pursuit, the suspect reportedly passed vehicles in no-passing zones and nearly caused a collision.
As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly tried to strike a Winfield Police officer who was deploying spike strips.
The chase continued onto U.S. Route 35 before the suspect’s vehicle ran out of gas near the entrance to Interstate 64.
The driver, identified as Cynthia Ward, 34, of Charleston, then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by KCSO K9 “Bill.”
Ward faces multiple charges, including fleeing, DUI, obstructing officers, and driving without insurance.
She was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, where her bond was set at $25,000 cash.
