GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly attempting to break into a home on Pocahontas Trail while two young children were inside.
Deputies from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department responded to Pocahontas Trail after the homeowner received a call from his 11-year-old son reporting that Chelsie Kincaid, a former guest at the home, was trespassing on the property. According to the boy, Kincaid was rummaging through items on the porch and possibly trying to steal them.
While deputies were en route, Kaptis’ 14-year-old son called 911 to report that Kincaid had entered the basement and was now attempting to force her way through the front door using a crowbar.
Upon arrival, Deputy A.L. Workman and Deputy D. Staley found Kincaid on the front porch and a man, later identified as George Carter, sitting in a Chevy Trailblazer in the driveway with its back hatch open. Both individuals were detained.
Kincaid admitted to using a key left on the porch to access the basement and told deputies she tried to use a screwdriver to open a side door and a window, claiming she was retrieving personal belongings. However, Mr. Kaptis told authorities she had moved out six weeks earlier, and had been instructed at that time to collect her items from totes he placed on the porch.
Statements from both children inside the home described Kincaid attempting to force her way inside, banging on the door with a hammer, and trying to enter a locked window by climbing onto the HVAC unit. They also reported seeing her carry items off the porch, suggesting an intent to steal.
Deputies discovered a screwdriver jammed in the side door’s deadbolt, a dog cage moved across the basement, and a dirt bike relocated to the yard, confirming attempts to access and remove property.
Kincaid is now facing charges related to trespassing, attempted burglary, and theft. The case remains under investigation by the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department.
