FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly attempting to smuggle methamphetamine into Mount Olive Correctional Complex on Sunday afternoon.
According to the West Virginia State Police, at approximately 2:49 p.m. on June 15, 2025, troopers were contacted by Beckley State Police Communications regarding a visitor suspected of bringing drugs into the prison, located at 1 Mountain Side Way in Mt. Olive.
Upon arrival, the responding trooper spoke with Lt. Dempsey, who reported that visitor Jennifer Gum had been found in possession of suspected methamphetamine. Sgt. Ridenour, who was conducting routine contraband checks, discovered a plastic cap containing a crystal-like substance on Gum during her security screening.
Troopers say the substance was consistent with methamphetamine. With Gum’s consent, authorities searched her vehicle—a gray Toyota Corolla with a West Virginia temporary tag—parked outside the facility. During the search, they discovered an additional clear plastic bag containing meth inside her purse, located in the front seat.
Jennifer Gum was arrested on the scene and charged with one count of transporting contraband into a jail and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. She is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 75,000 dollar bond.
