FLORIDA (LOOTPRESS) – A 47-year-old Florida woman has been arrested after allegedly breaking into a man’s home and attacking him with a garden hoe when he canceled their plans to “hang out.”
Melanie E. Davis was taken into custody last week and charged with felony aggravated battery using a deadly weapon and felony assault or battery during the commission of a burglary, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
Incident Details
According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary call at approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Frostproof, Florida. Authorities say that an hour prior, Davis allegedly climbed over and damaged the victim’s fence before entering his home, demanding money for an item she had purchased for him days earlier.
“[The victim] told Davis to leave multiple times and Davis refused to leave,” the affidavit states. “Davis entered the dwelling to see if [the victim] had anyone else inside. The incident escalated when Davis struck [the victim] with a garden hoe on his left arm.”
After the attack, Davis left the scene, and another woman transported the victim to Advent Health Hospital in Sebring, Florida, where he was treated for a laceration on his arm. Following his release, the victim filed a report with authorities.
Victim and Suspect Statements
The victim described Davis as a friend and stated that while they had engaged in “mutual sex in the past,” they were never in a dating relationship. He told investigators that Davis had come to his home uninvited, demanding money for a crossbow she had purchased for him. When he refused entry, Davis allegedly climbed the gate, forced her way inside, and refused to leave. A physical altercation ensued, during which Davis struck him with the garden hoe.
The victim also mentioned a prior violent encounter three days earlier, during which Davis accused him of taking her keys and allegedly struck him in the back of the head with a lock.
Detectives interviewed Davis, who admitted to climbing the fence and engaging in a physical altercation but claimed she struck the victim with “an unknown object.” The affidavit notes that she used “the blade of a garden hoe,” causing serious injury to his left arm.
Davis reportedly told investigators that she and the victim had planned to spend time together that evening, but when he canceled, she became upset and decided to confront him at his home.
Legal Consequences
In addition to the felony charges, Davis faces misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief and battery. She is currently being held in the Polk County Jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on March 18, according to court records.
The case remains under investigation.
