HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Police have charged a woman who stole a dog from an animal shelter and abandoned it.
Huntington Police say Kara Gibson was seen on security footage putting a dog named Alfie from the Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter into her car. Gibson then left the property and dropped Alfie off on the side of the road, where a resident found him.
The shelter released the following statement: “Sadly, Alfie was stolen from our shelter today. The woman pictured here walked through the shelter, looking at the animals. She then asked if she could walk Alfie, who had just been groomed and would be picked up by his adopter at three this afternoon. She said she had completed a volunteer waiver. She knew he was being adopted. Rather than walking him, she left with him in her car.”
The dog eventually ended up being adopted by the original owner. Gibson has been charged with animal cruelty and unlawfully obtaining a companion animal.
